TESTOSTERONE REPLACEMENT
What is testosterone replacement?
Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is the practice of introducing more testosterone into men in order to counteract lower testosterone levels. Starting in their 20’s or 30’s, all men's bodies naturally produce less and less testosterone throughout the duration of their lives. In cases where the reduction is severe enough to create undesirable symptoms, patients may opt to undergo testosterone replacement therapy.
What are the symptoms of low testosterone?
Although low levels of testosterone doesn’t create any symptoms that can really be seen, there are several indications that you may be suffering from low testosterone levels. Many men notice lowered sex drive, diminished sexual performance (erectile dysfunction), inexplicable weight gain and insomnia. Any combination of these may point to a low testosterone level that can be determined with a simple blood test.
How is testosterone replacement performed?
If your test indicates that you have low testosterone levels, you may choose one of four different ways to approach TRT. Your health care provider can determine if the best way to increase your testosterone is through a transdermal patch, topical cream, intramuscular injection or oral medication.
